Thomas Patterson ("T.P.") Campbell was born in Denver, Colo. in 1896. He was the grandson of U.S. Senator Thomas Patterson (1839-1916). Campbell graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy (1914), Dartmouth College (1918) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1921) before receiving his Doctor of Science from the Colorado School of Mines (1924).
